I recall the Special Interest Autos did an article on the early problems and the changes in the '49-50 transition. Lots of people in the old car world own complete runs of the great but deceased magazine..see if you can find one of them!

I think Hemmings might have reprinted that article. I think I have it around somewhere, if I can find it!

I always wanted a 1949 Coupe or Convertible. I like the 50 models but something kept drawing me to the 49. When I retired, I celebrated by buying a basket case 49 Coupe. Took 5 years but I can drive it now. Maybe someday it'll get painted.

I like the clean look of the 49 front and the way the park lights are an extension of the grill. sure the 50 had a number of improvements but if you have a really nice 49 in mind I'd go for it, it wouldn't have survived all these years if it was a "dog."

This thread is from 2015...
Probably best to start a new thread with questions about the 49 convertible.

Ford's advertising slogan back then : "The new 1950 Ford. Better in fifty ways!"

Ford actually made a lot of improvements during the 49 production year. Look for a model made in August 1949. The coupe had a trunk big enough to sleep in - I know.
