Default Why did Ford make both short and long door coupes?

Does anyone have a reason why Ford made both a short and a long door coupe in 1946-48? Not sure what the exact years are but I have seen both examples and often wondered why go to all the trouble of making two different coupe bodies. Which is the more rare?

I would assume it is because some had rear seat and some did not, just a place for salesmen's cases etc.

there is what called a business coupe that didn't have a
back seat but had a covered area for boxes and cases
that had the short doors, the longer doors are on the
coupe sedan that had a full back seat...Ernie

The Short door cp was made mainly for salesmen to carry their luggage catalogs, and samples. With no back seat and also the trunk, they had a huge amount of storage. Ford quit making the business cp during the 46 model year, but dealers complained and Ford made them available again, but only in the Deluxe model. The short door cp is hard to find in 46-48 models, as most were worn out by salesman, and if not they were used a lot on the dirt track...Tom
