Hesitation
Took the 40 (85 hp stock flathead) out for the longest drive and highest speed yet. Drove great at first. I drove it for 30 miles. Of those 30 miles 10 miles were at 55 mph. I noticed that the car started hesitating towards the end of the drive. I have a new Skip coil and a new good condenser. (so I know that’s good) What do you guys think? Picked up some trash in the carb? I let it cool down and it’s still running poor.

Re: Hesitation
Are your fuel lines clear? Any crap in the tank? If so it's in your lines and in your fuel pump. Try blowing your fuel back to the tank. If it runs better, you now know your problem.

Re: Hesitation
Good point about the gas line. It's been checked and all is clear. (Air moves freely to the tank and gas comes through the line with no issue).

Re: Hesitation
Put a fuel gauge between the pump and carb to see if you have fuel pressure all the time. G.M.

Re: Hesitation
Hills don't effect it either way. I noticed the hesitation when running 50 on a flat road giving just a little gas. It got worse as I got closer home. When I went up a hill it was still there the same as if I was on flat ground.
Power valve maybe?? I have a new one from Ken sitting on the work bench. I'll try to get it on in the morning. |

Re: Hesitation
It was the Power Valve. Put one of Ken's in and runs great.

Re: Hesitation
Good to hear that.Slop between the little link from the accel. pump to the throttle shaft will also sometimes cause this. Usually the bottom pin and middle hole will ware causing a hesitation with lite throttle settings.Glad you found the problem.ken ct.
