and then go get another new FUSION? What a name, "FUSION," Sounds like something powered by a GIANT FIRECRACKER. Is it lit manually? or is it activated electronically by a "BOOM BOX," that's triggered by the "WIRELESS" throttle pedal made somewhere in ASIA?? (Even "The Shadow" doesn't know for sure when I asked him!) Bill W.

What Henry would want us to do is build a car with a Mr Fusion.

It had a nice set of fenders, wheels, original 29 radiator shell and emblem. It wasn't a fine point car but definitely would have been a more than respectable driver. If there is an upside it is that a restorer ended up with everything except the body.

Battery acid? really? not paint stripper? i thought the USA had tons of old bodies in the desert to use and there are not even laws about cars over there. Here it is illegal to modify things very much at all.

We have drifted some from the original post. Here was a Guy that took his Dads beautifully restored A, chopped it and poured battery acid on it to make it look like a car that was built from junkyard parts and then called the appraiser.
If he took the same car and chopped it, placed some other engine in it, new suspension, new interior, and paint this would be a different story.

First, to be worried that "some of these guys vote" is absurd. I may not agree with what he did or how he thinks but we live in a country that is viable because we allow people to think in various ways. For a group or a country to walk in lock step...well, let's look at WWll Germany and other contemporary totalitarian states.
The same goes for Model A's. I most enjoy original cars and fine point cars. However, that doesn't mean that I don't enjoy touring, drivers, hot rods, rat rods, etc. However, in a best case scenario that might be the order in which excellent/original/NOS parts are used. Second, is this a true story or one that is passed on and we sometimes call "an old wife's tail"? Does a 50 mile original car truly exist? Also, does battery acid truly eat through paint? Was the guy saying this just to see your reaction, Tom? |

Mr Tube,
I have known Tom for years and have absolutely no doubt that he is accurately quoting the appraiser. My wonder is about the validity of the story itself. Dean |

BTW, battery acid does mess with paint. I found out when a battery blew up during the night, and speckled the hood paint on my dad's Olds. |

HUH? Ole Henry was the guy who stuck with the same model long after it was obsolete! despite everyone around him telling him it was time to change. This is the guy who made a laughingstock out of himself by promoting square dancing. It was way out of time even then. Yes, Henry did a lot of inovation, but it was merely to preserve his belief in old ways.

He could have sold the car and found a ton of old stuff on ebay, doing it this way, This way he could have shown love for his dad and used a brain cell,
Beside battery acid is a hazardous material someone should have called EPA and took the car away for contaminating the environment Last edited by allen; 07-18-2012 at 07:23 AM. |

Yea, you are right but for some reason I recall a Henry qoute being something along the lines of history is bunk all that matters is progress. But you are right, Henry refused to change many things. |

I think Henrey stuck with the same car for so long because he was cheap and wanted to make a car that the average person could buy. I agree people can do what they want with their own car even if what they do is dumb. I don't think these cars are that rare. My grandfather told me that times are changing and the people that want one the way it was made like him are passing on. Around here there are still quite a few that are just sitting. I think it just shows that there were so manny made and that is why they are so easy to find. I am not saying people schould cut up a restored car but it was his. Allso you see now how much these bodies are being sold for I kind of don't blame a person for buying a complete car to start with. For sure if they are from a part of the country where most stuff is rusted up and require just about all to be patched.

Some guy lent me his car, the battery blew up and distorted the hood so it would not open. Took ages to pry it open, then we spent hours trying to neutralize the acid and wash it away but that car still dissolved in a few months.. not a recommended way to age paint.
