t5 transmission in my 1953 ford 2 door

I got a chevy t5 with my 1953 2 door it is a s10 one I know I will have to change the top and tail shaft housing to get the shifter back enough to work I got a adapter with it to fit the ford housing to the chevy transmission


if some one had a ford transmission they could get me some number how long the input shaft is to the tip and to the splines would be great thanks

I believe you'd be better getting a Mustang T5 since it would bolt right onto your bell housing. It would have the correct shifter location and the proper gear ratios for automotive use.

Not really, you still need an adapter between the bell housing nand the trans. The adapter is 11/16 thick which compensates for the pilot length. all stock clutch linkage can be used. Relocating the shift lever mannot be necessary. Nothe Chevy switched to the ford bolt pattern aroun 92, I think. Rear axle should be around 4.1 for great preformance and economy.

It is a little confusing what you are looking for here, but think we will get there! Couple of questions, 1) Is the adapter you have for the chevy T5 bolt pattern? 2) Is you main concern to change the T5 tail housing to move the shifter position aft? 3) Is this a WC or NWC T5? 4) Is the ID tag still on the T5?

The transmission is a Chevy bolt pattern my adapter will bolt to my bell I need to know how long the stock input shaft is I know will have to find a throw bearing

Does the "none" refer to the tag? That looks like a chevy pattern adapter alright. Now, why are you concerned about the Ford input shaft measurements?

How about posting a photo of your transmission, that might be helpful.

How long is it from the cover to the tip tag 1152 145

IF that tag number is 1352 145, it is a 85-86 T5 original behind a V6. The gear ratios are 3.76/2.18/1.42/1.00/0.72.

Ok, still a little confused here, if you have the transmission and want to know the length of the input shaft, why not just measure the one you have?

Confusion added to confusion! So what you really want is a stock 53 transmission input shaft length. I have no idea, but someone on the Barn might be able to help with that.

Just saw the photo you posted, that should help a lot! Now you are wanting the corresponding original 53 Ford transmission measurement, correct?

Also might want to post what bellhousing you are using, is it the hogshead type or a later cast type. Another photo might help.

stock car one that is in my car I'm hoping if not I can get a pickup on but it is a cast iron one with mounts on it

Looks like Mercury unless the 52 & 53 all used the Mercury type but I thought Ford ones were stamped. The adapter for the Chevy type pattern will change the dimension going with the T5 so the OEM dimension would not be applicable. You also need a clutch to work with the T-5 and bolt to the 8BA flywheel.

Some bellhousings are easier to use than others but all are adaptable as far as I know. There are kits for this stuff too.

Ol Ron here on the Barn has helped with this T5 installation and should be able to provide the needed information. Believe it was Richard in Florida's car. Flat Ernie is another source. My experience is with the Hogsheads type of bellhousing adapter and no experience with the later style of bellhousings.
