Stromberg carbs
There is a sale coming up with 3 identical Stromberg carbs for sale. I dont really see any large ID like a #97 or other common logo on side. It would appear it was part of a tri-power set up . I dont have way to send pics but are they worth picking up JUST because they're Stromberg? I suppose the price would vary greatly depending on model. Any suggestions? Thanks

Re: Stromberg carbs
Maybe they are Stromberg 48's?
Do they have the summer/winter positions for accel pump?

Re: Stromberg carbs
I will have to take a closer look at the accel pump tomorrow. Looking for carbs for 46 Ford, wondering if these would be a good match. No idea what year these are or model #,will look into tomorrow

Re: Stromberg carbs
I believe Stromberg 48's were used in '34 and '35, and 97's used from '36 thru '38. In '39 started the Holley/Ford 94 style carbs used through 1956.

Re: Stromberg carbs
Thanks Sal! Without markings its hard to know what they are. I hear about Strombergs used on later Ford dual/tri carb set ups and thought someday I could always try it.

Re: Stromberg carbs
The reason the Stromberg 97s were only used for three years is that they are difficult to repair and adjust, particularly in twos or threes. They became popular because three would fit on a hot rod manifold with the stock generator. At our shop we recently rebuilt
a 97, and I had to search for my special tools from my hotrod days in the early 50's. |

Re: Stromberg carbs
No reason to work with old overpriced worn out Stromberg carbs.
You can buy new here. https://www.stromberg-97.com/ Bolt on adjust idle and drive. |

Re: Stromberg carbs
AHA!! 1 1/32 is on side of bowl. Ok guys, these appear to be in excellent rebuilt condition with all parts present. What would be a fair price? Sounds like I would have to use offset generator setup with these carbs? Thank you!!

If this helps, I bought an unused Uncle Max rebuilt 97 from a member here for $125. I know this was a good deal, so that is the low end. To have Uncle Max rebuild my two excellent 97's two years ago was $205 a piece so that gives you an idea of what it cost to rebuild a core that does not need parts. |

Re: Stromberg carbs
Having Uncle Max rebuild the carburetors is still less expensive than buying new reproductions, and you will have the satisfaction that they will work the first time you use them. Also the satisfaction of using original ford carburetors.
