Default driving with front windshield open

I drove with mine open about 2 or 3 inches at around 35 mph
and though my wheel bearings were screaming for help , then
only to find out closing the window the noise came from it.

is this normal for this to happen?

That's strange, I drive all summer with it open, at speeds up to 55mph, and have no squealing noise. Do you have something loose or dangling or in the air stream that would cause it ? How's your visor? Could air be coming thru or around it?

visor \\ that's possible cause , there is a drilled hole in it near the roof line about a 1/4 inch. I don't know why its there but I will seal it
and see if that is the cause.

I never experienced any noise like that with the windshield partially open on my town sedan.

i bet that is a possibility the hole is causing it to whistle with the air flowing through it when the window is open...
no noise in mine

thats cool you have a built in deer whistle deterrent...

I ask my wife if she wants to use the "AC"? Usually it is a go and out goes the windshield to the first notch -

Thanks again Henry and Edsel -

Be well -

I keep mine open most or all the way to the end of the retainer with no particular noises.

Mine whistles also. I've tried different openings notch between notch's no difference. Since there is no easy answer I'll look further. If I find a solution I'll let everyone know. This has to be happening to others also.

If my window is almost closed it will whistle. On the notches it is fine. I never drive with the window full open.

Mine whistles at certain speeds also. I at first thought it could be bearings. I figured out it was the windshield. It doesn't bother me that much.

Mine squeals if open as per the service bulletin. If I open it to the maximum, all is OK.

On my '31 coupe, the lower edge hits the gas cap when I swing it open. But then if I haven't tightened the knobs enough, when it swings in, the cap doesn't stop it. Is hitting the gas cap normal?

It's not normal for the windshield to hit the gas cap. Did you have the windshield out for some reason? I had mine out once and we fastened it temporarly to see how things worked and it hit the cap so we knew to move the hinge a little different until it didnt hit the cap.

the w/shield frame should not hit the fuel cap. some but not all causes are loose w/ shield hinge screws, rotted header wood or a hinge gasket that is to thick.

if you have a upper hinge gasket remove it. I replaced all my windshield lower and side rubber with out the top hinge gasket. I did not think
it served a purpose.

My Cabriolet whistles over 35 MPH with the windshield open to the notch. I know what it is so I don't let it other me.

I had a windshield that wouldn't open with the gas cap on so I removed the after market gas cap and installed a original and there was plenty of clearance.
