I am rebuilding a 47 Ford pickup. Should the inner fenders be bolted to outer fenders before bolting to frame or should i bolt inner fenders to truck, then bolt outer fenders to inner fenders & frame? Then place & secure front clip prior to installing the hood?

It's been a long time, if my memory bone serves me right we assembled the nose clip on the shop floor starting with the inner fenders loosely bolted to the core support. Then lower pan, fenders and grill panel last. With the radiator in three guys can gently lift the whole assembly onto the truck. I recommend you leave all bolts just snug as once things are on the frame you may need to do some adjusting or fine tuning as some call it. It can get a little compex around the sides of the grill as all three panel come together at this seam. This was all from my memory of 1976 so best of luck, Tim

Having done this job 5 times in the past ten years, I concur with Tim. If necessary, two guys can lift it on. I installed it once by myself, dangling the clip from an overhead winch line and driving into it, then lowering into place. Pretty much the same as docking the space shuttle. I also remove the front bumper as it's in the way when doing everything else and it goes back on after the fenders/clip is on. Make sure you install and dial in the grille bars while clip is off. So much easier access.

I remember seeing a post by Mike Kubart describing step by step front assembly for a 39 or 40. He wrote the book.
