Default chassis number location

Sorry, prob been asked a million times, but a search did no good for me.

It said you have to lift the body to see the number.

EXACTLY where is the number.

Does anyone have a measurement from a hole or a rivet to pinpoint it exactly in the case of a rusty or painted chassis to tell someone on ebay where to look for it?

( Say) Australian car in case Canadian is different from USA origin.

American - Between the front left body mount that is just behind the firewall and the next mount in front of the door. I don't have a measurement but a wire brush will show it.

It is my understanding that Canadian manufactured Model A's did not have the engine number stamped on the frame. I have a 1930 Canadian Phaeton, but I have not attempted to locate any frame numbers.
USA manufactured Model A's should have an engine number located on the left frame rail, under the splash shield between the cowl area and the cross member.

Go to my website www.plucks329s.org then go to Additional Studies, then go to Letters, Numbers and Codes and that should explain it to you.

Usually no number on the Canadian chassis after 1928. Engine number was the cars serial number in most countries. Here in NZ, an engine change was sometimes recorded on the cars original rego. papers, or not bothered about. All different in modern era.

I have a late '31 coupe (estimate April) and cannot find a trace of engine number stamping on the frame. Was it rusted away or never there?

This may help, but remember these were hand stamped so the location may vary (remember about the canadian car mentioned above).

Gunmetal blue; Yours looks to far foward & to high a # to match the early motor mounts you show... I would say some one re-stamped it..

It seems like the same here, so far 3 chassis on ebay have no numbers.

To have the authorities issue one means any street rod I build will have to comply with 2011 design rules.

So, has anyone got a number they can email me that is off a completely wrecked never to be used again chassis and I will stamp it myself.

BTW, the only original model A part used will be the chassis for the dark side haters.

Mine is right where the spare tire bracket bolts to the frame.

Fred,
these numbers match the engine number, and the body date are a month apart from each other.

Am I correct that the chassis number is not visible with the body in place?

Fred,
Those are AA mounts and the frame number is July of 29. The early mount looks
different, sorry no photo. Try Dean's post for photos. I didn't look in the JS when
the mounts changed, but I can look that up for you if you would like?
