F1 vin
Does any one know if there is a way to tell the assembly plant by the serial number on a 49 F1?

Re: F1 vin
Only if they happened to stamp it at the end of the line. Most plants didn't. Look for two capital letters.
You'll have better luck if you find a stamped assembly code on the firewall. Look for something like 7RHI2L6025 (my 48F1). Post it here or shoot me an email and I'll be glad to sort thru it with you. mtflat@hotmail dot com |

Re: F1 vin
There is an extensive discussion of F1 serial numbers and codes on the Ford Trucks website including where to find the assembly plant codes...

Re: F1 vin
They often used letters 3/8" to 1/2" tall and can be anywhere on the firewall, but often located near the center or slightly toward the driver's side.
Can be found above the cowl seam, but usually below it. Stampings are normally faint depending on how many layers of paint are there. Some trucks didn't get one at all. Plants showed a lot of imagination - this wasn't standardized - so you'll see most anything. If you see what appears to be a random series of numbers/letters, copy them down. We can probably sort it out. |

Re: F1 vin
You're welcome. A couple of us have been collecting serial numbers for the past 10 years trying to re-construct some of the info lost in '67 when Ford destroyed the old records. We have collected hundreds of vin/serial numbers from 48-50 trucks that have helped other guys know what they have.
Since info is so scarce on HP trucks it would be great to include your vin number in the mix if you don't mind. PM or email if you don't want to post it on the forum. The 03 in the firewall stamp would be the day. There should be a letter for the month following the number. |
