Re: Brake drums
Yes, they are made in chiner. I have examined side the Mel Gross (china) brake drums and the Snyder/Bratton brake drums and the only difference I see is in the outside lip area.

Re: Brake drums
Whoever you buy them from, you will need someone who knows what they're doing to install them on your hubs. They break easy. In SoCal. Jim Nichols in Costa Mesa is the guy.

Well what differences do you see in the areas that really matter .... such as the tensile strength, hardness, chemical composition and the basic characteristics of the China iron under elevated temperature conditions and compressive loading including the effects on the tensile strength and stress rupture properties as indicated by a stress rupture test? I'll bet Mel Gross doesn't know and the China boys would embellish (possibly lie) if they were asked. |

Re: Brake drums
Call Jim at Specialty Ford Parts in Rosemead (626) 280 4546. I know I talked to him once about American made A drums made locally. Jim doesn't answer the phone before 11am (Pacific), by the way.

Re: Brake drums
I contacted Mel Gross.
He does not have any AR drums that I need. Don't want to hijack another's thread, but, except for the larger hole in the middle, what is the difference between an AR drum and a later 28/29 front drum? It has been mentioned the early AR wheels only match the early drums. |

Re: Brake drums
Pooch, the AR drums are different. If you set them both flat on a table, the height from the top of the table, to the top edge of the drum is about 3/16" different. Take my word for it, they will not interchange!
Its Brattons I think that have the AR drums....... |

Re: Brake drums
I heard they went out of business years ago. They did make a quality product though, and I have four of them on my car. Very satisfied! They are equal if not better than what is on todays market.
