Default 36 LB block any interest ?

Since I have been involved building and playing with V-8 Ford flatheads for a very long time there's two V-8 Ford engine blocks I rarely see. The first is the 1932 and second the 36 LB.
Recently I came across a very nice LB block all the machine work had been done but was never assembled. The cylinder bore is .040 new cam bearings have been installed. In those cam bearings is a NOS stock cam with matching NOS Ford fiber gear.
Wondering if anyone would be interested in the LB ?

I would be interested in the LB block. I've been debating getting a 59AB rebuilt for my '34.

Possibly. I need one for my 36 of almost 50 years. My block is in bad shape thanks to an incompetent machinist in it’s past.

What'e the big deal on an LB engine. Babbie bearings will last a heck of a lot longer than any of us will. Not worth the big bucks you're going to have to pay. My 2¢.

It's tough to find anyplace to get the babbit work done and also very expensive.

I had a buddy that did it locally, but he has sadly joined the ranks of the dearly departed.

No need for trying to find someone to do the Babbitt when you have the LB its rebuildable forever just put in the needed insert bearings.

So if I understand you correctly, the LB was the late version of that block type and would be equipped with insert bearings from it's start. That correct?

Yes that's correct insert main bearings.

Where is LB stamped on the engine, is it on the block under the intake manifold? I guess the only way to know for sure if you have babbit or inserts is to pull the pan!

The LB's I've seen are big letters, like 3/8 or bigger, on the front drivers side of the deck between the intake and head. Not all are stamped

The one thing to check on is the availability of insert bearings for the LB. I thought that I'd heard that they were getting quite difficult to find . . . buy maybe I'm imagining things! LOL

Or Liner Bearing depending on who you ask.

They are the same as 37-38. Not thick on the ground by any means, but they can be found. The crank is the same as 37-38 also.

I wonder... Could the LB be machined to accept water pumps? I believe all else is like a '37? I know the '37/38 is the most versatile 21 stud, maybe include the LB with that mod?

Not all LB blocks are stamped. I have a Insert bearing block with no stamping. It came out of a 35 1 1/2 ton truck. Dave/Green Bay

The front of the block is different than the latter blocks so there's no material to machine on the front surface of the block to mounted water pumps.
