33/34 paint color
Looked at the posts and it seems to be an issue. It appears that PPG bought Dizler and has some info to cross match to modern paint like DCC Acrylic urethane but is very $$$$$ and color match is unclear.
TCP Global has their own paint line "Restoration Shop" acrylic urethane that they will color match. Eastward also has their own brand ..not sure about color match. Does anyone have a formula for Dearborn blue in a modern acrylic urethane paint? The info from PPG implies a Volvo color is best match. Does anyone know who makes the TCP and Eastwood products ....are they any good? How is TCP color match. Also the paint chip book for 28 to 36 Ford that is available has some color chips are really not the right color....Any thoughts? Thanks Ed Solari |

Re: 33/34 paint color
Hey ED , I did the best match thing with PPG on Tacoma Cream and Aurora Red they got it pretty darn good . The nice thing about this is additional paint is no problem as you just use the modern name and # . The cream ended up being a Ford color and the red was a GM ? color . Haven't looked in a while . The paint chip book if it is like mine it is not really useable as a matching sample = crapolla !!! Yes the new PPG paint is SPENDY .

Re: 33/34 paint color
When I restored my 1934 Ford P/U I found an area inside the cab that was in excellent condition. So, I chipped a small piece from the area ( it was above the headliner of the cab) and took it to the local body shop in Lakota, ND where I was living. The vehicle paint specialist matched it perfectly and mixed up enough to do the job and then some. I have a small sample of that paint (1/2 pint) to take care of any chips that might develop, but there have been none so far. All of this happened in the early 1970's.
I am very satisfied with his work. Thanks to Wayne Grunenwald of Lakota, North Dakota. George Maher Fargo, ND |

I looked through my photos and the best photo, showing the true color of my original Dearborn paint is this one. The paint on the firewall looks natural. In most photos, the color comes out too dark (Avatar). Keep in mind that the firewall was never polished at the Ford factory. MIKE CLICK ON PHOTO TO ENLARGE - Twice |
