Default Knot on tire..............

where the whitewall meets the rim, about the size of a quarter. I have changed it out. Now, I didn't buy the tires so I have no receipt. Am I SOL getting any warranty payback? If so, could I use it for as an temporary spare?

Thanks...........

Not worth the price of damaging a good tube

If you don't have the original bill of sale you will not qualify for warranty. As far as a spare, nobody in their right mind would want an unsafe tire on their car even in an emergency. Go to the dealer that sells that brand and see if they will do something on a trade in basis. Maybe a good time to replace them all for black walls! Wayne

It might be just an air bubble? Stab it with a knife or awl and see. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I can't believe you said that! When did you ever see an air bubble on a tire? Please do not follow his advice! Wayne

Need a picture.
I was thinking the same as Jim, but how can you get an air bubble in a tire with a tube?

It is obviously a flaw in the sidewall and very much subject to blowout . This same tire has been used at speeds of and or over 60mph.

Picture attached:

Note, it's mounted as a spare now and there is only about 20lbs of air inside. The knot is bigger with 33 PSI and mounted on the car.

That tire is way too old to ask for warrantee consideration. You could dismount it and do a visual to see what is really going on.

If he asks for warranty he could be the joke of the day in the tire shop or the town.. Wayne

I would use it as a spare. Drive slow. Better check your other tires for cracks and bubbles.

The two spares had never touched the ground and the road fours were almost mint as for tread goes. I've checked all other tires, no bubbles and none on any blackwalls either. but I did find another bubble on the same tire close to the other one, lower left corner. One photo shows the other spare and as the other spare, have never touched the ground. The four that are, are almost mint when it comes to tread wear.

I agree. It's too old and the cord must be shot in that spot.
I'd be looking for a better spare, or all the tires if the rest are like that.

The outside tread sure looks nice. I wonder if that bulge was caused by improper use of a tire tool?

Those spots on the tire are glue residue from a foam pad that was glued to the tire. Instead of fixing and replacing the door stop arm, the previous owner just glued a cushion on the driver's side spare tire.

Tom, all the tires have those hairline cracks except the other spare that's in the photo above but all the cracks are on the whitewall side. No cracks on the inside blackwalls.

I had a set of Goodyears that had cracks in the white wall area on every tire. This was a few years ago but I took them to the local Goodyear store and they did a pro-rated adjustment. I did not buy the tires from them. If you have a name brand you might try and see what they say. Norm

Am wondering if just the whitewall is separating from the carcass. WW's were laid in the mold and the tire was added, then it was vulcanized. It could probably be fixed with a hypodermic needle, patch adhesive and a clamp if you wanted to fiddle with it.
