front spring install
Is there an easy way to get the spring mounted to the perch ? I seem to have a hard time getting the shackles into the perch and spring eye without a lot of tension on things...there must be a trick to it. Thanks, [email protected]

Re: front spring install
Try setting a block of wood between the eye on the spring and the axle then use the wieght of the car to spread the spring.

Re: front spring install
ive done mine several times . it is fairly ez , not like the killer rear spring . the block is a good way , the pry bar also works , altho i use a axe handle & use my leg to hold it . makes it better cause im always alone . try not to tweak the shackles ...... steve

Re: front spring install
All of the suggestion stated above are dangerous. I found an old thread about spring spreaders and they are not real safe but are safer than what has been suggested.

Always carefully took front spring apart first by removing center bolt, after clamping with (2) large "C" clamps, one (1) each side of center bolt, plus a safety chain wrap. Removed the single bottom leaf from shackles last. Then re-installed in reverse order; bottom leaf first with eyes placed on shackles, & carefully re-assembled front spring with clamps, safety chain, & center bolt. Hope this helps. H.L. Chauvin |

Re: front spring install
Les Andrews mechanics handbook #1 explains this. Use two wood blocks. The book has repair instructions for every section of the model A. The vendors carry the book. Also the Model A service bulletins are an excellent resource.
