Re: Gas tank clean and seal cost?

Hi Pete, Nice idea, but it still takes multiple hours to R&R the tank, and apparently days of spinning for stripping and sealing. When we compare this to the OP's question about comparing that to R&R of a gas gauge, which I can do during commercials while watching TV in one evening, I see no comparison. Best |

Re: Gas tank clean and seal cost?
Sure, agreed . . but he made the next suggestion of getting it cleaned and sealed while at it. If he had any ideas of the tank being nasty in there, this is how I would handle it and will be doing the same for my '31

Re: Gas tank clean and seal cost?
While I am sure many on this board do it quicker, we had a club work session which took a car ready for work on the tank a DAY to pull it and a DAY to put it back a week later.
In between it was sent to a radiator shop to boil in acid and then the sealant was added. Maybe too many helpers, but figure accordingly. |

I took the advice of many of the Barners and just addressed the leaky gauge for now. When I drained the gas I ran the fuel through an inline fuel filter just to see what I would collect. There was quite a bit of rust for only draining about five gallons. I am planning to install an inline filter in the line until I pull the tank. That may not happen for a long time. Thanks for all your help. A special thanks to Mitch for lending me the gauge tools which I hope to return tomorrow. Suoergnat |
