Re: Rare intakes?
If you get a chance to go to the Speedway Motors Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska. They have a lot of neat speed parts for flat heads.

Re: Rare intakes?
The Kates is a copy of the Columbia casting an intake produced in the US. The Lawler is a copy of the Roof casting also an intake produced the US. The intakes posted are from Australia of New Zealand both country's had many variations of intakes for the Ford flathead. However almost all of them are identical copy's of US intakes with just a name change added. China was not alone making knock off items.

We all seem to forget Japan's post WWII copying of cameras and watches. They made some fine products, but all were direct copies.

Re: Rare intakes?
Actually the Kates intake manifold is from the Shanafelt pattern and would have been cast in the USA. I have never been able to track down who Kates was or the identity of the intake. Perhaps made by Bill Shanafelt or perhaps not. I have one of the Kates intakes and have found they were made in Oregon. The Kates, Columbia, Lance and Rocket intakes were all cast from the Shanafelt pattern. The Lawler intake is definitely from Australia.

Re: Rare intakes?
I'm not sure this falls into this thread however maybe someone has some info on this. A fellow Barner if I recall correctly said this is for a 6 cylinder? Don't remember for sure. It is solid aluminum but dirty from decades in the barn. I don't find any witness marks on it as having ever been installed. Can anybody ID it?

Re: Rare intakes?
Wow Tom, that is pretty cool! Measure the center to center distance of the top 2 mounting holes from one end to the other, that will give a length to check against some known head or gasket. Very unusual shape. What a neat wall hanger!
I read that Shanafelt taught Edmonds how to cast these things and Shanafelt used his molds and substituted other name plates too. Shanafelt was from the Portland Oregon area. |

The "Lawler" intake is the same base design as a "Roof" intake.

I wonder if it's because, like recorded music, once it's been in the public domain for a number of years (I believe 50 years), it then becomes OK to copy without infringement lawsuits. That's how all those no name record labels pump out all those Greatest Hits of the 50's, etc. |

Re: Rare intakes?
It should polish up nicely. I believe all Edmunds intakes were polished when new.
