nothing wrong with somebody turning a car for some extra bucks. i'm sure a 40' ford lover will end up with this car simply because of the price.

Actually the car was a pretty easy restoration. In spite of the fact that it had sat outside for such a long time, the car was very complete, with most of the rust out limited to the rumble seat area... Typical of all older cars with the rumble seat option.
As it turned out the car was originally a California car, having been built in the Long Beach, CA Chrysler plant on January 28, 1939... Chrysler kept very good records on all of the vehicles they built from 1931 on..
The rarity of the '39 conv's did make it difficult to find a lot of the pieces that are conv only.. It took me ten years to find the quarter panel stainless trim, it only fit's rumble seat coupes (1,500 built) and the conv. coupes.
It was quite an experience working on a Plymouth in lieu of my usual Ford projects. With the aid of the wonderful internet world, I was able to network with people all over the U.S. and Australia for parts and info..
The attached pix is of another field find that I hauled out of Wells, NV last year... It is a '37 GMC 1/2 ton... Absolutely no rust-out anywhere... Again, not a Ford, but it is a very rare vehicle..

What he said... I just don't understand the confusion with people buying cars to sell? It's been done since cars were invented. Buy, sell, upgrade.... Simple.

Well it has been a while as you can see with this story.I just wanted to maybe put a very good end to it.I finally got ownership of the car a while back(Feb. 2,2015)which has been over a year!I guess I was determined to have this car and bought it from the dealer who got it from John.They brought it back to live after sitting in the shed for about 25 years.They did not even have to paint the car.Just polished it to a good shine!I have a lot of pictures and I would like to share just a couple.

Went and picked John up and gave him a ride to bring a lot of "Memories"back!

I had a friend who had a 36 5 window coupe. His wife was always going garage sale shopping. he kept this 36 in the garage. As time passes , the wife with all her garage sale purchases started pilling her stuff on the car. SO I spoke to my friend now 88 and told him that I have space in my large shop for his car and he could store it here for free. Later he was not able to drive and I told him that when ever he wanted to go for a drive just let me know and I would get it out and we could take it for a spin.2 years later he and his wife end up in a assisted living home and the car was still in my shop. At that time I made it a point to every week go buy and visit my 2 friends. 2 years later my friend passes away @ 92 years old. The car still sat in my shop with no storage fees. 2 years later my friends kids tell me that they are looking at selling the car to help in paying costs for their mothers care. I had entertained a cash offer on the car but the kids decided that they wanted to maximize the sale of their fathers car.
So I told the kids that from that day on they will be expected to start paying going rate for storage. I felt bad that I had to do this but had thought that they would sell the car to someone else and I would have stored their fathers car in side my heated shop for free for over 6 years . I really would have liked to have my friends car and thought that the kids would see that . But when time came , the kids got $2000.00 more for the car than I had offered but by time the car sold they had paid me over $2,000.00 for storage. With this , it was a bitter sweet ending because if I had ended up with his car , this car would always be noted as his car and I would have spent over $12,000.00 to fix the car up back to the condition it was when my friend built it 30 years ago.

Hard for me to process the fact the car in the barn is one and the same as the shiny one in the other picture. A beauty for sure ! And about the Plymouth, also another astounding restoration after seeing what you started with. Ya dun good bubba !!
