Up DateClay Smith Mistery cam
I don't like to give wrong information. Going into the dark arkives of my old documents. I found some specs for the Clat Smith 272 cam and the other readers were right, lift was .325,
Going to the Smith Jones cams I found a cam 270 with .375 intake 312 exhaust I brought out the rear part of what I thought was a Clay Smith cal and it measired .384 Int and .380 ex. Im not sure where thid cam came from as I sold it in 58 to Elmer Roy for the 74 which was running at Danbury. I now understand why it ran so good. Unfortunately, I was wrong about the origin of the cam, wish I knew what ti was. |

Re: Up DateClay Smith Mistery cam
Thanks,Some day I might try and get the duration from this broken piece. However the lift is still an Issue, with both lobes over .380" doesn't sound like a Clay Smith ca.

Ron:
Does this change your recommendation of the Clay Smith 272-2 in your book? Tim |

Re: Up DateClay Smith Mistery cam
I based my recommendations on the performance of this cam, which I thought was a Clay Smith 272-2. At least thaT was what was stamped on the cam. Now I have no reason to believe that it wasn't the same cam Roy used in the car. That was over 60 years ago and I wanted to use the cam Myself, but wasn't racing at the time.
However the car preformed very well with this cam, what ever it was. Still a mystery |
