Default 32 Model B or A Wiring Harness

Anyone know the difference between the 32 and A harness that is at the bottom of the steering column?

Can they interchange?

They sure look similar.

Yes, I have considered this, thanks.
Length I can deal with but set different on the face that the switch uses would be a problem.

I do notice in the Mac's cataloges of both A and V8 the wiring harness' have very similar #'s, which makes me think they must be very close.

The NUMBERS would be the same for ANY equivalent Ford wiring section...so if 14403 is the front wiring harness, that number would be there for a front wiring harness for a '68 Mustang. The PREFIX, A orB in thes case, denotes the car series, additional letters there (AR, BF, etc.) indicate different versions, suffixes indicate MORE differences or revisions. The number simply names the part, it is the surrounding letters and stuff that indicate what it fits.
I think late Model A harness is schematically just about identical to '32, but would have multiple issues of wire lengths and layout. If you were wiring the car yourself, A switch terminal plate and light terminals, etc., would be useful, but the whole harness would be cut, extend, fit, and tape just about as hard as making it up from scratch.

There were two different Model B lamp wiring harnesses; an early one without provision for a in-circuit fuse for use with a hand controlled starter switch (like your truck) and a later one with provision for a in-circuit fuse for use with a foot controlled starter switch. I do not know which version Mac's offers but at least two other wiring suppliers offer both.

While I believe that the A, B, and early V-8 configuration of wires at the lamp switch is basically the same, as mentioned above, there most certainly different wire lengths involved (Model A horn wire too long and Model A generator, stop lamp switch and tail lamp wires too short).

Ok
Thanks all for the input.
Mac's does not reference the dash pull starter option in their wiring offerings for 32 all floor start.

I'll have to look around.

On interchange...for a '32, 2 important sources:
The reproduced edition of the late '32 parts book nicely shows which parts are '32 only and which also fit Model A.
The '28-48 shows the many '32 numbers that were used on later Fords, good fleamarket info, and also occasionally shows later parts that replace a '32 part...if
a part listed as fitting '32 has anything but B or 18 as a prefix, like 40 or 68, that part is a later replacement part, functional but not entirely correct. *

*It must be noted that almost anything on a '32 that interchanges with Model A or later V8's is going to be something that is cheap and easy to find anyhow...this really won't help much with the endless quest for parts and the unbelievable prices everything '32 brings...

The two sources that I am aware of that offer both the early and late wiring harnesses for Model Bs are Rhode Island Wiring (www.riwire.com) and Tyree Harris (804-929-6515 cell or 804-556-5200 land line). Both produce wiring harnesses of very high quality which are excellent reproductions from an appearance point of view as well.
