Default 1935 metalic taupe paint source?

Does anybody know a source for "metalic taupe", the color used in the interior for a 1935 Ford Deluxe? Thanks. [email protected].

You might check with Bill Hirsch or Roy Nacewicz for starters.

I tired to find a code with no luck. I did take a garnish Moulding to the paint shop to match it. It was close but we ended up adding some more colors to help match it. So I never got a code.

I still don't think the color I mixed is quite right either.

Good luck!

Several years ago I purchased the 1935 Met Taupe from TCP Global in Calif- 858-909-2158

Their p/n may have changed but at the time was IM044

Hope this helps...

I drove the three hours down toTCP Global and had them mix the color from an original dash with a waterfall that had never been removed. They charged me a premium and the color they came up with is nowhere close and neither is their catalog color.

I'd find another source if I were you.

The problem with the early color codes is that they were using various amounts of colors that were long ago superseded by new formulas with new color names. There is no universal color coding that goes back that far. The computer driven optical comparators can get close but a highly experienced color blender can do it by eye better as long as they are very familiar with their current mixing colors for the paint type desired and they have an exellent example of the original color at hand.

One way to do it is to take a good example of the color you need to the most highly recommended paint supply place near your area and compair the color to a modern coded color then just get it as close as possible that way using the newest color chips available. Even the color chips fade with time and become unusable.

Many of the paints I have used for the last 30 years have become obsolete and EPA shunned so it is a nightmare to match stuff with paints you are not familiar with.

As a eye matcher I have made this colour its a easy colour to make ,! Get some Med silver Lacquer or base coat ( there are various silver partial sizes ) start adding black then a few drops of Magenta (Red blue .) maybe a little yellow like the shell motor oil .try this in a coke bottle lid size first .dab a little on your sample as you go to test ,top coat it with satin clear 2K or Lacquer straight .I suspect Ford used a red Dye as most of the dashes I have seen have faded out to silver .
