'29 Tudor Visor Question
The front visor on my '29 Tudor has a bow in it. It just doesn't look right to me. Is it suppose to have the bow or is it suppose to be straight across? Most vendors have a new reproduction visor available which I'm thinking of buying if my is screwed up with the bow. Has anyone used a repro visor? If so how was/is the fit? Thanks.
I tried to download a photo but it failed because of the size and my wife is bugging me to hurry up! I'll try it later...! |

Re: '29 Tudor Visor Question
The visor should be straight across, no bowed if it is original. I have seen ones as you describe [ bowed] & they look fabricated. The originals were covered by the top fabric, not painted, & hence were prone to rust damage.

Here's a photo of the visor on my Tudor. It looks like it's an original piece that has lived a tough life. I plan on replacing it with a reproduction straight one from one of our Model a vendors. the visor should be straight, yes? Click on the photo to see the bow in the visor. |

Re: '29 Tudor Visor Question
Hi Lou,
I purchased an original 28/29 coupe/tudor sun visor at the big 3 swap meet last year for $30 and never used it. I live in Lakewood, close to you. You can have it for what I paid for it, if you are interested. I think you already have my phone number. Regards, Neil |

I'll take the visor. Is it in good condition or does it have a lot of wear? If I can find your number I'll call you later today or tomorrow to arrange pick up. Or if you want to come by my place you can check out my Tudor, even thou it's not for sale right now. I'll call you... thanks, Lou |

Re: '29 Tudor Visor Question
Bill asked: Could you just straighten it? Bill W. Sure I bet it could be straightened but is it worth the time and effort? I did a quick measurement and the center section of the visor bows upward over 2 1/2" from the bottom edge corners. The metal is badly stretched and the top surface of the visor is very wavy from being stretched. Sure it could be straightened but not without a lot of heat, effort and time.
I guess at this stage of my life I'm just looking for the easier way out, by replacing it with a good one. |

Re: '29 Tudor Visor Question
If you study Archive photos you will find approximately 15% of visors are flat across the front. The majority are like the one I show below. You will find a few that are high in the center but without the graceful curve (not pretty). To me the curve is more pleasing aesthetically so every car I've done left looking like the one in the pic.
Keep in mind when looking at original photos that the exact same visor is also used on all '28-29 Coupe models.

Re: '29 Tudor Visor Question
Marco,
Thanks so much for the photos of the visor's proper shape. The visor you show is very nice with it's graceful slight curvature shape. Neil Mylar has a new visor that I'm going to pick up to replace my old beat up one. I hope it'll look as good as the one in your photo. Thanks again, Lou |

Re: '29 Tudor Visor Question
Nice looking tudor. My visor is bowed also and covered in some kind of cloth material. Someday im going to redo the top and visor and put wire wheels on it.

Re: '29 Tudor Visor Question
Great lookin' Tudor, Gary! IF I ever get a dfferent car, it'll be a TUDOR! You even got a WIPER!! I have a primo Trico replacement wiper, but missing all the parts of the sliding valve on top. IF I can't find all the parts, I'll just carve a wooden dummy valve, paint 'er BLACK & pretend I have a workin' wiper
YAY! for Rain X!! Bill W.

Re: '29 Tudor Visor Question
I bought a 29 coupe from Neil Mylar about 5 years ago and it is all original. The visor on it looks alot like the one Marco showed, almost identical in shape, slight bow.

Re: '29 Tudor Visor Question
Great photos Marco! Is that visor held on with just the four screws, or are there others in the center? The visor on my 1929 60C Blindback it nailed and soldered on, I think the Leatherback 60A7B have their own visor. The pickup has its own for a total of four different 28-29 visors. Bob

Re: '29 Tudor Visor Question
On re checking my visor, it does have a slight bow out to it, which makes them look good. Too much bow & they look like raised eyebrows.
Bob/Rdstr62, there are 7 screws underneath holding the Tudor visor to the header. |
