Reality shows are garbage, especially automotive themed shows, and a good indication of how far we have fallen as a country. Give me a break. You would be better off in the shop doing something constructive. TM

That Mustang is repairable...might have to replace the subrails from the firewall forward but considering everything on the car was new or recently done it shouldn't be much of a problem. Might have to change 1 or 2 of the four fender aprons. Shock towers should be fine. Engine was fine 'cause they started the car after the accident.

I think $1000 in new metal at the most and maybe a week for those monkeys to dis-assemble, weld in and paint the new stuff, then reassemble. Maybe the second week to do body/paint work. But at least its black, pretty simple to match the color LOL.

Scott they probably did just that so they could sell the car. I doubt they would just scrap it. The entire new inner frame structure for the front including shock towers is only $750 a side.

We get that here in the Uk and I think it is one of the better 'reality' Tv programmes.

I enjoy seeing the countryside of Texas as they go about their business.

And I like the fact that they do not always make $$$$.

Good point BobbyG. Sometime back gas monkey garage had a Model A for sale on eBay I sent a contact seller with questions never heard back and although I thought for the condition it was over priced, at least they recognized it was all in it's original condition and chose to sell vs. chopping it up, like one episode I saw on American Hotrod Boyd coddington
When he was with us, he found an original I believe 1 owned family Model a, tha ran beautifully and his whole team was torn that he insisted on cutting up completely for a resto
Rod, damn it was sickening, and when it was all done it wasn't impressive at all.

I've also been involved with taping a show for the History Channel and I appeared on one of those pawn shop type reality shows, so I know you can't believe everything they show you on tv.
Overall I enjoy watching it, although you definitely have to take it with a grain of salt.

I also enjoy Richard & Aaron ...

Over on the AACA there is a long thread with many posts
by Phipps who was their landlord until they moved into
their new digs this season ...

What you see is what you get, Richard has an ego but
who doesn't have an ego ???

I like their builds - they are getting better.

This is why I load up on "uninsured motorist" insurance. There are so many deadbeats out there, you're foolish if you don't now. If the can't afford insurance, they likely have no assests, no money, and no future earniing potential..

Uninsured motorist options are the best thing to come down the old pike in years..

I believe "uninsured motorist" insurance covers Bodily Injury to you or your
passengers, it does NOT cover any damage to the vehicle you are driving.

Lanny, I have AAA and was hit and run and totaled out my Ford Ranger truck a the time, and because the guy nor the vehicle could be found uninsured motorist on my policy paid for the value of my truck at the time. I fortunately was not hurt in the vehicle, I came around a bend this guy comes screaming down the street at high speeds on a residential side street, he loses control, and hits me almost dead on for a head on collision, I tried to get out and couldn't it was an El Camino, he looks right out the windshield of his car with steam coming from the radiator his car died and rolled back a few feet as he looks up at me in the truck he smiles, and he's able to get his car restarted and speeds off with that grin on his face, man I was pissed, bastard....

Collision coverage is what pays for your car if the other guy doesn't have insurance.

no, it doesn't

From an insurance information website ( www.car-insurance-guide.us) :

What is collision coverage?

Collision coverage is the part of your car insurance policy that will cover the cost of damages to your car that occur because of a car accident you cause. If it was someone else's fault, then their insurance will cover the cost of your car repair.

What is uninsured motorist coverage?

Uninsured motorist coverage (also known as underinsured motorist coverage) covers the cost of damages to your car in the event that you are hit by another driver who doesn't have car insurance. Uninsured motorist coverage also pays for medical care for you and your passengers, and funeral costs for injuries related to the accident up to the amount that your policy would have covered for the other person had the accident been your fault. Hit and run accidents are included under this policy as well. Accidents involving bikes and pedestrians may also be covered; contact your prospective provider to be sure.

Wow, we must have gotten away with something. My wife's vehicle was struck by an uninsured DUI driver a few years back. The guy did not have insurance. Our carrier payed for the damage to the vehicle caused by the uninsured motorist. Must not be an iron clad rule then. Some one better clue my insurance company in. TM

I would imagine it is probably like most things,
every state has their own laws and requirments
for everything, including insurance laws, and
here is a copy I found of Minnesota's.
------------------------------------------------------

Minimum Coverage Requirements
Minnesota requires all licensed vehicles to have PIP, Liability,
Uninsured, and Underinsured coverage in the following amounts:
Type of Coverage Minimum Amount Required
Personal Injury Protection (PIP) $40,000 per person per accident
($20,000 for hospital/medical expenses and
$20,000 for non-medical expenses such as lost
wages, replacement services, etc.)
Liability $30,000 for injuries to one person
$60,000 for injuries to two or more people
$10,000 for physical damage to the other driver’s
vehicle or for damage to property
Uninsured $25,000 for injuries to one person
$50,000 for injuries to two or more people
Underinsured $25,000 for injuries to one person
$50,000 for injuries to two or more people
If you have a loan on your vehicle, the lienholder, as the legal
owner of the car, will require you to carry comprehensive and
collision coverage. If you do not purchase this coverage, the lien
holder may buy it and charge you for the premium. This is
termed “forced insurance;” it is extremely expensive, it is legal,

and it does not include the required coverages listed above.

You have to believe Richard Rollins are giving it his best shot to make money on these cars, an example is selling the 41 Willys coupe for 25k, thats a good price for a builder of a classic gasser, sometimes you have to stand firm on what your selling and he did, I think Richard is a man of integrity and Id like to hang out at the shop for a week and give Aaron a hand. gump

Coincidentally, there seems to be as much discussion over what's real or unreal as there was years ago when wrestling was the "reality" show on the tube.

"American Pickers" is contrived too. A while ago, they visited Daytona Beach and bought a "Pandora's Box" neon sign, while "free-styling".
The owner of the shop was interviewed by our local newspaper. The owner stated that an advance crew was in his place two weeks prior, but on the day of the purchase, it was the first time that he had met Frank and Mike.

I am on the other side of the street on my opinion of him. I will admit I do watch a bit of the show though. Read all of his feedback here :

I do not beleive everything i see or hear. I think it is just another make beleive TV show. I think all those type of shows have the same writer. Whatever they are doing they end up with a big deal of missing parts, wrong paint, or whatever and end up with a deadline of some type they have to meet, but they make it. Marv
