Default Ford Y Block Hollow Pushrods Cleaning

y blockers

i've seen cut to length pushrods with

press in ball ends for high performance.

will one of the ball ends come out on

these original pushrods for cleaning?

yep, new sets are $65, but it just irks me

to toss mine out when they just need cleaning inside.

have a nice day!

There's nothing to clean inside. They don't flow any oil.

street dreams

then Ford wasted a lot of time

putting oil passages in rockers and

little bitty holes in each end of these

hollow tubular pushrods.

now, back to anybody know if they

come apart for cleaning?

have a nice day!

They dont come apart, the little holes are to hold oil for lubrication. The holes should not go all the way though to the inside. I just cleaned a whole set, the late model Y block tube pushrods are very nice. A far cry better then the early Y block solid parts.

Just how do you propose the oil gets into them? From a mushroom style solid lifter??

i always thought oil came through the tube.

master cylinder, there are holes in both ends and

pushrod is hollow.

it comes DOWN from the rockershaft & rocker.

like i just described earlier.

ok, maybe i just clean outside and that's it.

have a nice day!

You must have the "special" push rods as I've never seen any with holes in them. And the oil comes from the rocker arm and flows down through the push rod? How did it work when Y-Blocks had solid push rods?

The oil holes in the rocker are there to lubricate the top of the push rod and the valve stem. Any oil running down the push rod will run on the outside. There is no need to run oil through the push rod.

got it all squared away!

what looked like holes are just wear patterns

making a little paperclip size dot.

they are tubular or hollow but no oil flow through.

easy clean up and can keep 'em!

rocker oils top cup on pushrod and

bottom ball that fits in lifter is just

splash oiled, i guess.

have a nice day!

Maybe I should butt out but IF you would just listen to what others are trying to tell you for once you may reduce your heartburn and maybe learn something in the process instead of saying "Hey" and all of a sudden you act like you just figured it out regardless of what anyone else has already said.
Just my 1¢. Now you can start calling me names again...

for anybody interested in rebuilding their

y block engine.

the pushrods come in solid and tubular.

Mummert has a nice picture of a solid

one cracked from fatigue.

the tubular do not carry the oil like on

later engines, they're just lighter.

i would say if you buy new ones, get the tubular and

make sure their the right length.

have a nice day!

Who do you think your reading audience is? We are not a bunch of 20 year old newbies that need these simplistic observations! Maybe all these posts are a joke?

On the other hand, for that "race" engine, get some 3/8 in. tubulars to go with the high valve spring pressures and rpms on those C1TEs. But at this rate that is a couple thousand posts away.

Evidently the person making the comments about oil flowing through the push rods has never taken the time, or had the need to, re-adjust the valves on a Y Block... Which has to be done while the engine is running. When doing so, it is very evident that the oil "bubbles" out of the rocker arms, flowing down the rotating push rods.
Hmmmm ?... I wonder how does the oil get up to the rocker arm assembly? Could be divine intervention? Or in the case of many people views on the Y Blocks, the work of the devil.... Which required external oil lines from the lower oil galley...

Capillarity you fool "lol"

Capillarity or capillary action is the ability of a narrow tube to draw a liquid upwards against the force of gravity

this 292 has mixed pushrods.

it looks like most of them are the old originals

like in pic #1.

then there are three or four replacement ones.

a sample is in pic #2.

they have the bright metal ends.

cleaning them up is a real good idea so

the oil can run down them better.

have a nice day!

it's a good thing to look the engine

over and get up to speed on the stuff that's

different about it.

later Fords and other makes

have the oil flowing through the pushrods.

they have a dome cap on each end with a small hole

and the oil comes up from the lifters.

have a nice day!
