Brake shoes
When buying new brake shoes is it better to buy complete brand new ones or old relined ones ? I plan to buy them through Snyders Catalog. Thanks for any input.

Re: Brake shoes
I have seen the new shoes and they really look good. I would suggest the new ones with WOVEN linings. The woven linings make a big difference in how your Model A will stop. The molded linings are much harder and your car will not stop nearly as well.
The problem with original used brake shoes is most are either very badly rusted or the holes are all worn out. I usually have to go thru 20-30 used shoes to find 8 that are usable. My opinion, Chris W. |

Re: Brake shoes
Whatever you buy make sure the linings fit your drums.
In some ways it is simpler to buy new drums fitted to hubs and machined, and new shoes and lining made to fit. |

Re: Brake shoes
John, we lube both types of linings with a WD40 product, and dust has not been a problem for us.

Re: Brake shoes
There is more then one product put out under the WD label then WD-40. Besides, WD-40 would keep the water off the lining!

Re: Brake shoes
"We" did not decide that. Someone else might have thought/suggested that, but not "we". Anyone that suggests WD40 is just a "water displacement" is naïve about the brand.

Re: Brake shoes
The idea is to lubricate, the braking effciency is directly related to reducing friction in the moving parts.
