Default new starter moters

Hi Barner's, What is your opinion on the new starters with a modern bendix drive verses having the old one rebuilt by Mac's ? with shipping costs today it makes a person think a little.
Thank you.

Why don't you try to rebuild it yourself? They are not that difficult. If the commutator needs turning, find a friend with a lathe. 90% of the time it's just brushes and commutator being turned.

I have heard that "new" bendix is hard to get it in place?? As for me I would have my local shop rebuild it, most of the time they are not completelly shot and would be much cheaper. Postage to ways to NY will kill you!!!!

over here there is a place called carburetor electric, they rebuild starters, generators, alternators, they rebuilt my HD starter and made it a higher Kw than stock.
you should have a shop that dose the same in you town or somewere close.
also a better price than buying new or shipping to have someone else rebuild.
i have never had good luck with electrical, so i will always send it out.

Installed one of these new bendixs. Had no problem with installing it. The only difference is that the noise is more like a rubber mallet hitting a solid object. Other than that it's one the brighter things I've attempted. Also reasonable $25 and more reliable. Do it.... Gordon
