Default 1940 Ford cowl vent linkage

Does anyone have some pictures of the cowl vent linkage. Recently got my cowl vent working after removing bondo and screws that my grandfather put in some 35 years ago. Of course the linkage was gone; but was able to find a linkage setup at Early Ford Store in San Dimas CA. Just need to see how it installs under the dash, also forgot to mention that he removed the original dash and built a more flatened dash back in the 1950's.

I was checking the posts this morning when I noticed a post on this thread from 19FORDY. He had responded with pictures showing me what I needed, all of a sudden his response disappeared and never came back. What the heck happened

Thanks for posting these. I took lots of pictures of mine during disassembly...unfortunately that hard drive crashed.

I'll see if I can get mine back together, it looks similar. I'll take some pictures tomorrow night.

Ditto, 19Fourdy, I have just recently found my dissassembled vent mechanism in a box; now I can put it together. Great pics. Thanks, Joel

Well, 1941 is completely different. I think I got it but the Drake seal seems a little bulky:

Hi,
just a note on the relocation of your ignition resister.the orignal location could'nt be in a more inaccessable place. I have considered re locating mine in the inside of the left side kick panel. Any comments on my idea
i am slowely finishing up my convert. I hope to have finished in 2099 ha

The purpose of this post is to answer the following question posed by Al.
One question; is there a bushing at the pivot point for the actual cowl vent, my holes seem very large - maybe they are just worn big time. Thanks, Al
Here are two photos of the bolt assembly that I put thru the main pivot point of the mechanism. The first photo shows the main pivot point bolt with washers and nut etc. I can't recall if the main hole is oversize, but I think it is because you can use this nut and bolt to adjust the movement and tighness of the cowl vent.I don't recall if there were thin brass washers used in the OEM assembly, but I used them as I didn't want any steel rubbing on steel. Plus, I can't recall if the bolt had a shoulder on it or not. However, the nut and bolt is assembled very tight and does not move when the cowl vent handle is moved to the open or closed position. If you click on the photo you will see that the nut and bolt assembly is as follows from L to Right. Bolt head, thin brass washer, lower vent arm, thin brass washer, upper vent arm, thin brass washer, lower vent arm, thin brass washer, small fender washer, flat washer, lock washer, nut. As I write this, I am thinking more and more that all those brass washers are not needed and probably are not OEM. But, it's been working fine since 1988. Hope this helps.

Scott,

Attached is the instruction sheet for a new hardware kit we have available. It may help you with the installation of your lid and linkage.

Has anyone noticed any other repro parts vendors go to the time and effort to provide drawings for parts they don't even make. Is this the same Bob Drake all the whiners are crying about?

If you read his post carefully, he DOES make the kit. To quote him (his first sentence): "Attached is the instruction sheet for a new hardware kit we have available".
However, yeah, that's the same guy and yes, it was very nice of him to answer as completely as he did. Thanks Bob. Credit, where credit is due.

That makes me think it was an apparent oversight on his part that he did not answer the other post (Hey Bob Darke... I did call for a return this time.) wherein many guys questioned his parts and return policy.

Thanks for the pics 19Fordy, I think what I will have to do is 'sister' another piece of metal with a correct hole beside the existing one so the vent does not rock up and down when operated. Al

Thanks Bob, I needed that! The problem I have is that the pivot points for the vent are really worn but I think I can fix that. I will be ordering the hardware kit as well.
Do you have any drawings for the 1940 Parking Brake Handle installation?
