Book or video how to do valve job 40 Ford
My '40 needs a complete valve job and I have never done one. I have the heads and intake off with the engine still in the car. I can do it if I had a video or book to show me step by step how to do it. Any one know of a video, book, or something that would give me the help I need?

Get an old Motor's Manual...they tell what to do step by step.
Library, book store, flea market. |

Your best bet would be to pull the engine...for easier access....

It will be a struggle in chassis and hit and miss with split guides and lapping only.

Re: Book or video how to do valve job 40 Ford
I have all new valve train items to install back into the engine. I have the one piece guides and the adjustable lifters. I had two exhaust valves that broke off even at the head is why I'm doing this valve job.

It's pretty hard to do a good three angle valve job with a suction cup.

Karl, let me say that your offer to help has set me back some. I did not think that people just helped people any more. I live in Kentucky. I have started collecting parts and tools that I think I may need. I have found two manuals in my books that tell me how to do this. With the correct tools I see no reason I can not do this myself with the engine in the car.

Re: Book or video how to do valve job 40 Ford
Lapping stick and compound with new valves is a far stretch for having the correct tools. To do a respectable valve job,you need a valve seat grinding set up for the job. Snap on,Sioux,Kwickway,Black and Decker,Neway.A complete system with the correct pilot for a flathead is what is required as flatties require a 1 1/32" proprietary guide pilot.Just to name a few all can be found on e bay.
Heed some advice and research doing this with more tools to produce a fine job one you will be proud of,done with your hands. R |
