I wish i still had it!
Every once in a while somebody says they sold a car and wished they hadn't. My "wished I hadn't" was a 56 Continental Mark II. Damned nice car in good condition.
Who else sold a "wished I hadn't" and what was it? |

I wish I still had my 57 Ford Fairlane 500 Club Victoria. That paid for my wifes engagement ring back in 78. Oh well..........

Re: I wish i still had it!
In 1965, I sold my 1953 Mercury conv, std trans, pwr seats & windows - dual exh. to my brother so I could buy a HP Buick Skylark. That 53 Merc was the best looking car i ever had. A little under powered although it sounded great. I built a center console with lights at the floor that came on when either door opened. A Sun tach was added. It was mint green with a black top. Anyone out there have my car or one like it.??!!

Re: I wish i still had it!
In 1963, a buddy of mine and I had a 331" hemi-powered '36 5w which we "operated enthusiastically" on a regular basis. I bought a '40 Tudor sedan, absolutely complete less engine, for $7.50. We took the hydraulic brakes off the '40 and transplanted them to the '36. I then sold the '40 for $10.00 and thought I'd made money. Talk about wishing you still had the car . . . . . .

Re: I wish i still had it!
I suppose we all have at least one or two sob-stories about 'the one that got away' (cars, that is...)
One of mine was a '65 Mustang 'vert, 289, T10 4spd. Paid $75 for it in '74, drove it home - barely. Rebuilt everything in & on it. Life, wife and kids got in the way, sold it in '80 for $1200. But the one that I really wish I had back is my dad's '36 1 1/2 ton Ford flatbead. He bought it in '60 or '61 for $125, was solid and it ran great; he used it till about '65 when he bought a new F250. The old flathead/flatbed was driven to the boneyard, Dad didn't want to mess with selling it. He knew the guy at the junkyard, who sat it off on one side of the yard with a bunch of other older vehicles. But the owner passed a few years later and I'm pretty sure nearly everything was crushed shortly after. |

Re: I wish i still had it!
Well for me I had a 65 Mustang when I turned 16,that was in 76. The next one was my first early Ford ,it was 40 sedan I pulled from a barn and paid $500 for it and it was very complete. I worked on it for 2 years and my dad helped with the metal work till I was finished. I drove and enjoyed it till 96 when I moved and sold it to built a new shop. Dad passed away since then but now I sure wish I could find that 40 .

40 Ford convertible with a 265 Chevy that I bought in 1962 for $400. Saw it 40 years later as a pile of parts laying in a fellow's garage in LaGrangeville, NY.

Re: I wish i still had it!
In 1963 I bought a 1948 Plymouth Business Coupe for $75.00. Had it for for 3 years on the road then put it up on blocks in 1966 when I bought my 1965 Mustang. When I went to Vietnam in 1969 my mother and father sold both cars while I was away. What were they thinking?????

Re: I wish i still had it!
I still have my first car which isn't saying much, but I wish we still had my grandfathers car. In his youth he was a stock car driver and had a race ready 32 coupe. In 58 my grandmother told him she needed milk for the kids, but he needed a new fan belt for the car. Being a car guy he bought the belt, the next weekend the car was gone.

Re: I wish i still had it!
My first car was a '48 Super Deluxe TuDor Sedan that I bought in '65 when I was 16. I drove that car while I was in High School, had to sell it when I got drafted in '69, found it again in the mid '80's not far from where I lived however, the owner would not sell it to me... He still has it and I've got first dibs on it if and when he decides to sell it... I’d sure like to have it back!

Re: I wish i still had it!
Fortunately, I managed to have a place to keep it, so, I still have it.
