Grease fitting on exhaust pipe
Back in the mid 60's I was a teenager that read a lot of Hot Rod magazines instead of studying at school. I remember reading about someone recommending in one of the magazines to drill and tap a hole in the exhaust pipe up close to the manifold for a grease fitting and to shoot about 4 shots of grease in it every time the car was serviced. The purpose was to coat the inside of the exhaust system to keep it from rusting out internally. It said that when the car warmed up the grease melted and coated everything in side the system. I have never tried this but have always intended to. Has anyone else ever heard this or tried it to see if it really works.

Re: Grease fitting on exhaust pipe
That must have been an April Fool's day article. That would make a mess on the inside of your exhaust and produce an ungodly amount of smoke

Re: Grease fitting on exhaust pipe
Just add some extra MMO to the gasoline, that should do the trick.

I'm in agreement with J Franklin on this, MMO would be the way to go and a whole lot easier.

Re: Grease fitting on exhaust pipe
My first Model A had a better system for coating the exhaust system: direct injection of SAE 40 weight mixed with STP via the combustion chambers. I think it was called "blow-by" or something like that. It was also a great tail-gater repellant.

Re: Grease fitting on exhaust pipe
Greasing the inside of the exhaust system only works if your car has hydraulic bumper bolts.

Re: Grease fitting on exhaust pipe
I replaced mine with digital bolts so I could adjust them with my iPhone.

Re: Grease fitting on exhaust pipe
Left handed grease works better.

Anyone who has owned a British car knows exactly what you are talking about.

I've posted this before, but it's been a while. So...
Q: Why don't the English make computers? A: Because they haven't figured out how to make them leak oil. So there! Marshall |
