Default 1948 Ford Sedan Tire Size

I have a 1948 Ford Sedan 2 Door V8 with some original equipment tires that are 6.00 16. I would like to replace them with some more modern tires and don't know what size or how large a tire will work. Has anyone put some late model tires on your car and had any problems with clearances? What size tire will work on the 48 Ford Sedan if I use the original equipment wheels? Also, the tires I have now are tube type, can the original equipment wheels be used with a tubeless tire?

Another option would be to purchase another set of wheels and keep my original tires and wheels. Anyone have a suggestion as to what wheel would be good? My car is all stock and I'd like to keep it relatively stock looking.

I'm running Coker 600x16 Radials (tubeless) on our '39 CS with the OEM wheels. I'm also running the radial equivalent of 710x15's on our '47 Convertible with a set of OEM '46 Mercury 15" rims, (also tubeless). If you check the various tire sellers web sites, you should find a chart that will give the radial equivalent of a bias-ply tire size.

I'm running 650x16 bias ply and seems to be good speed just got it going.
I need 2 tires.
I,m thinking of bias ply look radials.
keep same 16" wheels reuse tubes.
or go with 15" wheel,or go 16" new 6"wide rims.
Here is some idea to think about.
Bigger tire more speed.
Coker Classic nostalgia radials offer the look of classic bias ply tires 29.26" Dia.
Firestone 3 Inch Whitewall Nonscript - 650-16 29.10" Dia.
15" wheels American Classic 3 Inch Whitewall - 235/75R15 28.8" dia.
16" wheels new 6" wide American Classic 2 3/8 Inch Whitewall - 235/70R16 28.8" dia.

Previous owner put G75-15 bias ply wide whites on 15 X 5" wide tubeless rims (Merc I think). I did not like the ride, as they hooked every rut and seam in the road.

Did my research on FB and elsewhere and decided on Diamondback AS4 Series P205/75R15 radials with the 3" whitewall. Massive improvement in all respects. Highly recommended.

I have Coker 600x16 bias plies on my '47. They are wide (3") whites, and drive and handle fine. With 35# in them, there is no slop or weave.

I put the Coker radials with 3" white walls on my '40 and there is a huge difference in ride and steering. Expensive, but I'll only do it once !
