Default Eisenhower Mercury

Since the Patton Mercury photo I posted earlier was of interest to some I thought this newer, 53 Mercury, deserved a look too. I did not record the details of time or occasion but maybe an Eisenhower presidential inauguration parade?

Interesting. That is Gov. Thomas Dewey in that car, if the sign on the side is to be believed.

Nice cars . I reckon Ike would "choke on his wheaties" if he could witness your current Presidential campaigns?

Presidential hopefuls of the mid 20th century might gag a bit but the presidential hopefuls of the 18th & 19th centuries did a lot of crazy stuff to try & get elected. Both Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton were both VP hopefuls for the 1804 election but neither one made it despite what Hamilton had done for Jefferson in the election of 1800. Problems between them ended in the dual where Hamilton didn't survive.

The two different political parties were divided like two separate armies and they fought some bloody campaigns in elections back then. Fist fights were very common. Some folks got caned. Elections now days are pretty laid back compared to back in that era. Those folks would think we are a bunch of weenies.
