hydraulic brakes
I am working on a long term project. A 32 roadster. About 20 years a go I purchased new brake cylinders and today I am doing some assembly. Turns out that my front cylinders do not have the inverted flare. It is the correct thread size but not flare inside. Is there an adapter or do I just use a flat brass ring?

Re: hydraulic brakes
The 91A-2149 gasket was a copper washer that was used on early applications before Weatherhead inverted flare type fittings came along. The gasket was also used on the banjo bolt type fittings. The copper is annealed soft so it literally squishes it to a good tight seal. We still used copper washers on aircraft type spark plugs.

Re: hydraulic brakes
Fronts don't use an inverted flare do they? The hose should screw into the wheel
cylinder and the inverted flare is on the other end of the hose where the metal line hooks into it. Bob |

Re: hydraulic brakes
Yes, the fronts don't have the flare connection. It accepts the brake hose with a copper washer. The other end of the hose (where it's mounted to the frame) has an inverted flare connection that accepts a steel line on the right side of the car and the banjo bolt on the left side.

Re: hydraulic brakes
I was confused cus back in 1975 I had a 29 roadster pickup that I converted to hydraulic. A friend gave me some front cylinders that bolted right up to 48 backing plates. They had the flare inside just like the rears. I also remember that they were 1 1/8 by 1 3/8 cups. A bit odd I guess. Thanks all. This sire is the best
