Title Question
I have purchased a 1933 Ford Tudor Deluxe that came from NY in 1977. It has never been titled in this state NC.
Were there titles issued when this car was sold new? Thanks for your time! Terry |

Re: Title Question
No idea re: your question, but I just got my title in the mail this week, Whoo Hoo! My 36' was never titled, as far as I know, it took a notarized bill of sale with frame stamp numbers, and a Polaroid picture, plus $150 bucks, I think, BAM! New title in mailbox. Next I will register my restored by hand 1936 YOM plates.

Re: Title Question
New York State does not require a title on any vehicle prior to (I think) 1972. If you have the original paperwork from when you bought the car, your state DMV should have no problem issuing a "title". If not, you could try contacting the NY DMV and get the info on the car from them to provide to your DMV.

Re: Title Question
In both North Carolina & South Carolina titles have become somewhat of a nightmare.
Sometimes a bill of sale is not enough to appease the DMV's,,hard to get them to understand that some states didn't issue titles. South Carolina DMV is worse than North Carolina and it's to the point where I won't buy anything without one,,just too much Bureaucratically BS. HRP

Re: Title Question
I do have the old owners NY insurance reg. card with the VIN number on it.
NC wants a title application with 1 and 1/2 times the cars value in a bond, to hold for three years. I sure wish I could find a better way! |

Re: Title Question
Most of the interest shown in the registration of vehicles bought in NYS is that they collect their fair share of the sales tax when a dealership is not involved. I have been told by owners who have had private sales, that the cost of a vehicle sold in a private transaction is different than what is presented to DMV. If it appears that the selling price is quite lower than the book value they use, they may request to view the vehicle.

Re: Title Question
No state is worse than Illinois (even with title work!). This state will not do a title search for you for anything past 10 years. They will not recognize a title that has not currently been registered or any old title for that matter. Illinois is not antique car friendly. The DMV employees won't help you out with anything other than a driving test, license renewal. They tell you to call Springfield and like hotrodprimer said there is so much bureaucracy involved most people just give up. Illinois has surpassed California for rediculous legistation, regulation and overreach of power.

Re: Title Question
Hi Seth, it is hard to believe that Illinois could be more difficult than California. I lived in Northern Ca. for about 35 years if given the choice between a root canal or a visit to dmv it was a tough decision.
