Default battery

Just had the generator rebuilt with new cut out. Replaced the fan belt and charged the battery. Car fired up right away and the Amp guage showed the generator charging. Shut off the engine and the Amp guage went right to the negative side. What do you think may have caued this. I disconnected the pos side until I can get back to it later.

I installed a diode in my cutout, no problems since. Mac's has the kit for $2.90.
