Re: 40 ? backing plate help.
The 64- clip you found is for the 46-48 style brake, yours is the 39-42 style. I too have not found a source for the clip you need.

Re: 40 ? backing plate help.
I had the same problem about 10 years ago and believe that clip got broken when trying to remove drums when brake shoe linings were still in contact with the inner surface of the drums and I could not back them off. When I did finally get the drums off, I found those clips broken. I know I found someway to repair them, fabricate new ones, or maybe salvage some from some old backing plates that were otherwise unusable

Re: 40 ? backing plate help.
I'd just fabricate a bracket with the same general dimensions and tig/tack it into place. No reason to throw an otherwise good backing plate away.

Re: 40 ? backing plate help.
Exactly!
You could bolt it on, weld it on,or weld a new tab to what is left! |

Re: 40 ? backing plate help.
Funny you should bring that up, I was at Ray Helgers the other day when his som Ray III, who is an ace mechanic and restorer asked Ray if he had any of those clips because one was broken on the backing plate. Ray said the same thing, no body makes them, you have to get one of another backing plate, of which of course he has a ton of.
