Default Broken ear on Inside Steering Column

Looking for advice for fixing a broken ear on the top of the steering columnn. This is the grooved part that the spark advance and throttle ride on. I know I could cut the shaft off and reweld a different to or just cut an ear off and weld it onto the side. I'm interested in what your opinion of the easiest fix. The sector is a late 29 gemmer.
Thanks

Welding an ear on is probably the easiest. If you are going to take the column out, which I assume that you would, then at that point I would go ahead an get another column and have that ready to put on. You could still use everything of yours other than the broken column. With the steering wheel off, they slide off the gear box without affecting any of your steering adjustments. You can pick a column up pretty easy, they seem to be around. Try Berts.

That should be an easy fix for a TIG welder or gas welder, if you have the broken part. If you are talking transfering a part from another column, then I'd just use the other column, and the best of the 2 columns for the rest of the steering gear.

My car currently has a 7 tooth sector on it. I am rebuilding a 29 2 tooth to put in the car. I plan to weld the broken ear back on the column. Thanks for your help.

If you remove the column to weld it, be sure to check the area at the bottom where the control rods exit for cracks. That area can be under a lot of stress, especially if the steering gear box is not mounted tightly to the frame.
