I looked at the 5 engines I picked up the other week,one has the number C69 A cast on the block,it has the 3.3/16 bore ,it had the thick rod bearings and the 8ba type rods,my question is .what does the C 69 A mean.and what year .

Canadian engine, usually fitted into the jailbars. Probably also has the 8BA style valves too. Excellent block for boring BIG, on account of the really thick cylinder walls. Brian

When you mention 8BA style rods, I think you'll find they actually are [dimension wise]earlier rods with a notch cut into them to take lock in shells. part number for those rod bearings is C49A-6215- whatever size [coded]. These bearings are now very hard to find, however, no worries mate, just use normal full floaters. Brian

lawrie thats a hard to find block canadian with different metal these as brien said bore big,,the brgs in these are usually very thick compared with normal 8ba ones & are near impossible to find, lucky kiwi oz ,,lol have fun mate

Brian and Trev, the rod bearings were in good shape,maybe I should retrieve them from the rubish bin,
You guys going to the V8 rally in Hamilton in Jan?
I will be in Waikanai for a couple of weeks after the 8th Jan.

i think you can go about + 120 but get it sonic tested still making my mind up about the nationals i would be taking my g/kids so it gets expensive specially after

going on this trip tomorrow

have you got a 4" ctank for that block? or bigger trev

Trev ,we havent got the crank yet ,but with the Aussie dollar at parity a new scat rotating assy at 1800 looks good,

Lawrie, I've just bored mine a very conservative 0.125", and there is still plenty of thickness left; I'd say the cyl walls are still at least 1/4" thick at top using the old two finger measuring gauge between cyl wall and water jacket. In my experience, these C69A's have the thickest cyl walls of any of the 59 series blocks, I doubt you'll find any other block more suitable for boring big. No mate, I'm not going to nationals; I'm not in the club, I'm too much of a hoon!! Brian
