Default Need advice on Tillotson XF carburetor rebuild

I recently took my 1930 Model A Tudor for a ride and the carburetor throttle shaft stuck in the wide-open position. Quite a scare!

Snyder's has a Tillotson XF rebuild kit, along with new throttle shaft, plate, and shaft bushings. Has anyone rebuit a Tillotson XF and how successful was the rebuild? It seems there are many threads about disappointing carburetor rebuilds and I'm wondering if it's worth the trouble and $$ savings. My back-up plan was to buy a Zenith model #13922.

I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has done a Tillotson rebuild and how it turned out.

Thank you!

I just rebuilt a Tillotson X today and put it on my truck, it runs much better than the Zenith I had on it - but I'm having issues with hi speed adjustment.
If I close it too far I have no power, but if I open it too far, it starts to 'buck' or stumble.
I'll have to recheck timing next week - I have the points set at .020 per Les Andrew's book, but I noticed the instructions that came with the carb kit says .018, but then it could be a condenser acting up, it seems like every time I get a "bug" worked out of something - it turns out to be a "new" (apparent poor quality) replacement part.

Throttle sticking wide open sounds like the problem might be your apparatus rubbing where it comes through the floor board. Be certain that there is free movement and spring tension in the apparatus that is attached to the back of the engine.
