Default body blocks

Do you paint, oil, varnish or treat your body blocks when assembling a model A?

I redid an early Jeep which used wood inside the mounting channels. I ended up using Trex, cut down to size. I was wondering if anyone used a similar synthetic wood for blocking rather than real wood?

I varnish them and then spray several coats of PPG DP-90 epoxy (satin black).
