Default Numbers on firewall?

When I stripped the paint on the firewall of my 40 DeLuxe, I found a series of numbers with a letter below stamped into it in the upper right hand corner near where the handbrake bolts are. They don't match the serial number on the frame, so what are they?

I think they have something to do with the factory production stamping number of the firewall.
I am sure they have nothing to do with the VIN #.

I figured it was something like that but they aren't on the 39 firewall I'm using for patch panels. The other interesting thing I discovered is there doesn't seem to be any primer under the original paint on both my firewall and the 39. My 40 paint came off with a putty knife for the most part. Guess they were saving money anyway they could. Thanks,

Rich

The numbers on the firewall are likely the same numbers that are on the bellhousing if it is a matching numbers matching car.

It didn't have the original engine in it, there was a 59L motor in it. It also clearly had a SBC in it sometime in it's past but the rest of the running gear was stock. I'm going to start looking at the firewall on every 40 I see from now on

Cleaning up the firewall of a '40 business coupe, found these discussed numbers beside the voltage regulator. The car is window dated to june '40 and the firewall number is 79513. Not expecting significant information by such a number but wondering if any aspect of the numbering is model significant or serially correlated for this later production coupe. Another of my cars, an early five window coupe, window dated October '39 shows no number in that location. Fred A

My '47 has 7 or 8 digit embossed number-letter code on the center-top of the cowl/firewall. At one point i had figured out that it indicated (among other things) the body style (2DR coupe) the color number and the body production date.

My 47 has the same letters/numbers on the fire wall and on the bellhousing meaning it was the engine that came with car body I believe
