Default This morning's blizzard run.

Just a short drive down to the gym for my morning treadmill but oh, what a blizzard it was. Can't get much more fun than this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7l5qmJHpiD8

I take it your heater/defrost works?
What happens when your front glass crusts over on the outside?

You never cease to amaze me with your outings!
Thanks.

I just "tuned up" my heater fan motor so it really puts out the air through the fresh air heater and defroster. I've never had the area where the wipers wipe crust over as long as the wipers are moving. Climbing hills in the snow makes them stop then they crust over and I have to stop and clear them. Here's a video showing vacuum wipers in various circumstances including climbing while snowing that may be informative. Snow is at 0:46. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wzaz7laBsRE

your lucky you live in a place with very little traffic and you can enjoy your car.. try going from long island to new new jersey you would have never got the car in second speed. and it would have taken you about 2-3 hours to go 35 miles.

Stock B.F. Goodrich Silvertown 6.00-16 bias plies made by Coker sold by Summit Racing for the same price as Coker but free shipping. I can't go everywhere with them. I tried to go up two streets today that I couldn't get up so found a longer less steep route to get where I was going. But most places I can go carefully, slowly accelerating and traveling, and all places I at least try to go. That's part of the fun. When I drove this car in high school I often put chains on in the morning just to get to school. I don't do that any more.

It's a Hull compass. There are a lot available on eBay here: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...mpass&_sacat=0 It seems rare to find one that's lighted like mine is. Here's the only one currently listed: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-HULL...tWetAM&vxp=mtr But it's a little older style - probably more authentic than mine.

Mine came in a kind of 60's or 70's gold color I painted Khaki to match the dash board.

Yeah. I don't mind blue skies if I have to have them. But, the worse the weather the better I like it. The only surface I really don't like driving on is mud because, if you get stuck, you have to get out in it and try to push in it, which is miserable enough, then there's no way to keep from bringing it back into the car. My first gear still groans from burning it trying not to get stuck in this huge mud hole a couple of years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWEHZQpuiwI

Beautiful photography, Craig. You've inspired me to rebuild the wiper motor on my '47. Yours is awesome!!

My insurance company would have a stroke if they thought I was driving my Ford in "bad" weather.

We have a several inches of global warming on the ground too and I'm worried about moving my truck from the driveway in front of the house to the carport in back of the house so the overhead door company can put my new garage door in.

Very interesting to see how the old Ford handles in slippery snow conditions. I don't know how your car stays so rust free though. Here we have road salt on every paved surface at the first hint of frost or snow and everybody drives like it is summer time (too fast). Rust is a fact of life unless you park it for the winter. I took my 52 out for a short run this week but in pure dry, unsalted snow. No other traffic to worry about. But thats as far as I go. I can't afford any more rust holes in the old Merc.

My car was outside from at least 1959 when dad bought it to 2006 when we revived it, driven all winter on very salty roads for years and years. If it has rust it's not hurting anything and has probably had it since before dad bought it. It's just surface rust on the frame and undercarriage. No body rust at all after all of those years. The front floor panel rusted through in a few places from sitting outside for 31 years without a radio antennae and the water leaking in onto the floor. That's about it. Don't let a little (or a lot) of salt on the road scare you. It's not that big a deal.
