There is nothing like the sound of a Round engine. To this day when I hear one flying over head I go look to the sky and try and find it. Love that sound. I have two CD's with nothing but Round Engine sounds. Love it. I wear a leg Prosthesis and have a special painted cover for it when I wear shorts. Painted sky blue, white wispy clouds, a C-124 flying across the sky, Royal Crest from my base in England (RAF Mildenhall), US air forces in Europe insignia on it, and the new USAF insignia. (Couldn't find a PIC of the old Insignia for the artist to copy.) Not another one like it. It was made especially for me. If I knew how to post PICs I would post a couple. Loving the sound and looks of the old piston engined Air Craft is pretty good since I was trained as an Jet Over two Engine mechanic.
If someone that knew how to post PICs on here I would be glad to send you a couple of PICs of my prosthesis leg socket cover. I think some would be interested in seeing it I just don't know how to do it.

It does my heart good to read them all and realize what a great bunch of patriots I associate with on the barn.

X2 on those engines. Our work took us near or on the flight line some and all work stopped when one of those polished aluminum piston powered beauties taxied by. What a thrill. Same feeling as watching and hearing a giant steam locomotive on the move.

US Army National Guard, 49th Armored Division Texas Lone Star was my weekend warrior job for 6-years. I was in a detachment that provided helicopter maintenance for several companies here in San Antonio. We worked on Hueys, Cobras, & Kiowas back then. My unit had orders for Iraq back in 1991 but when the Pentagon found out we only had old stuff they rescinded the orders. I guess they didn't want two types of helicopters due to supply chain problems. I still think the Huey was better suited than the Blackhawk was for desert warfare. I was kind of old for that stuff anyway but I would have been happy to go even if it was hotter than Hades. The 49th was deactivated to the 36th Infantry Div back in the last decade.

I lost a friend and a fellow veteran today. Bill Morris, age 91, of Covington, GA. Bill had a twin brother, both served in Army Signal Corps. Bill was in the second wave to go ashore at Omaha Beach on D Day, right in rear of Infantry and light artillery, laying cable and setting up front line communications.

An interesting aside, another fellow in my Sunday school class, Sanford McDonald, 88, was on board ship on the way to an all out attack on the Japanese mainland when they received word that the Japanese had surrendered, and the war was over.

Never forget the greatest generation. I hope we never have to be faced with war again. Thanks Bill, and Sanford and all other Vets for your service to our country.

Naval Air Station Barbers Point Oahu Hawaii. 1961-1963 Utility Squadron One.I have the highest respect for those who were in combat, and otherwise had the difficult assignments.Bless you all !
