Re: Tappets What do you prefer?
I think most modern tappets are adjustable. But one has a choice of single or double locking.
My engine rebuilder recommended the single lock: more expensive for sure, but he finds the work goes faster and more reliably - and he had not had a report of any issues with the single locks. Seems the double locks are continually "fighting" with themselves as you position them and then tighten the lock. Stretch one way and then compress the other - in effect. Joe K |

Re: Tappets What do you prefer?
I would prefer adjustables, and as to single or double lock, would depend on the base circle of the cam I'm working with.

I use the self locking adjustable lifters that Bratton and Snyder sells.

Re: Tappets What do you prefer?
I use the single lock lifters. I also dress the tops of them flat, as they sometimes come with a domed top, and once I got a set that had a little tit where the lathe tool that cut the top shape left a little material.

Re: Tappets What do you prefer?
I like the single nut tappets BUT a word of caution. I had an issue with my set. The nuts should be hard to move. Two of the ones on my car became loose and moved. One opened up to .050. Replacing them is a pain. I tried damaging the threads and Locktite to repair. So far it is working.

Re: Tappets What do you prefer?
I like the single nuts but like Cajun I had the exact same problem. My repair seems to be holding but I would probably go back with double or make sure I use Loctite on any single nuts.
