Professor. I've just finished reading some of your other "adventures". Ever think of writing a book about them, they'd make great reading and you'd have have some cool "glossies" for the centre section?
Loved the "Pikes Peak" yarn. GB

Yes, thanks for sharing, love the videos. Hank, I think you have more guts than Dick Tracy. Great car, and be careful, keep the shiny side up.

Re: Father, Son, Dog and "Old Henry" to Moab, Utah
The photos of muddy, snow covered roads brings back fond memories of when I and my '36 Ford coupe lived in Idaho, Utah & Nevada, and had the opportunity, and need, to travel through many of the areas you have traveled in your Ford.
My '36 Ford was my SUV, "work truck", "Sunday go to meeting" & race car, because that was all I could afford. Me and "Henry" have covered over 94k in the sixty plus years I have been taking care of him. Not wanting to be picky, I noted in your second pix, that the muddy water running down your right front fender would indicate that someone neglected to put new seals between the headlight, parking light buckets...

Re: Father, Son, Dog and "Old Henry" to Moab, Utah
Thank you for the wonderful travelogue! I've been to Dead Horse Point, Moab, Canyonlands, etc-your photos and video really do the magnificent scenery justice. Lots of people own these old cars; I doubt very many use them in such an adventurous way, and can't imagine anyone else who documents it so well for others to enjoy.

Re: Father, Son, Dog and "Old Henry" to Moab, Utah
Craig, Damn you!! you have done it again, quite a trip with you, your son and ol Pepe, and of course Old Henry, reliable as usual. Wow those photo's are breath taking, and to see Old Henry instead of some new modern vehicle in those shots some how makes it all the sweater... Nice to wake up on New Year's Day and see such beautiful photo's and what looks like a beautiful excursion between father, son and mans best friend.. Thanks for that Pete

Re: Father, Son, Dog and "Old Henry" to Moab, Utah
Prof,
Nice trip, great photo's! You give me incentive to take my 38 pickup on trips starting this summer when it is finally road worthy. It has been a long haul getting to the point I feel comfortable taking it on long trips. It will be special for me as it is the vehicle I learned to drive in too, like you with Old Henry. It was my mothers and as a kid I took it places you would not believe it would go. If I knew I would inherit it one day I might have taken better care of it. I will start taking trips in it this summer and I will try to do as well as you documenting them. Thanks for sharing all your trips.

Re: Father, Son, Dog and "Old Henry" to Moab, Utah
I just looked at this whole area on Google Earth and it is most dramatic. For such a view search for Dead Horse Point State Park, Utah 313, Moab, UT on Google Earth, zoom out, and fly south to the edge of the plateau. You'll see the whole route from Moab to the Shafer Trail including the Potash Ponds and Dead Horse Point peninsula and overlook. Here's a screen shot of the point (where the green marker is) and our road below.
This shot shows where we had to stop for the closed gate in the top right corner before finishing up going up the Shafer Trail to the top of the plateau to get to Dead Horse Point.

Re: Father, Son, Dog and "Old Henry" to Moab, Utah
Yes, I spend allot of time on Google earth. It's a great place to go for people like me that can't drive any more to see the sights. But I'd give my right nut to tagalong with Henry. ( lost the left one to the vA)
Thanks again Hank. |

What a thrill it would be to have you tag along. I'd even let you keep your "essential parts".

Re: Father, Son, Dog and "Old Henry" to Moab, Utah
I spent about 3 weeks touring Colorado with Paul Garigan back in 06. Increadable is all that I can say. We went places with his roadster mountain goats would thing twice about. Now I feel fortunate to go along with you.
Thanks for the ride. |
