There shouldn't be a "T" fitting on the canister inlet.Where does the other outlet go???? ken ct. Use a straight fitting instead of a 90% one in the pic. Easier to drill the hole. I think thats 1/8" pipe thread on the male end.

The other outlet on the 8BA fitting is where the sending unit goes. And it's 1/4 pipe.

Go to www.royalbrassandhose.com click on brass fittings fittings then click automotive fittings and you will find the oil restrictor. G.M.

This is where the sending unit and restictor are located on the 8BA engines. Some of the SU's were mounted vertically and some were horizontal.

I have a 1941 flathead. Where is my restrictor supposed to be located? On the inlet or outlet? There are two 1/4" taps coming off of the block one goes to the sender the other to the oil canister. The return line looks like it goes to the front of the engine. My oil pressure is mid 30# at start-up. Once hot 4-9#'s at idle and 10-20#'s when driving. I'm concerned with my pressure when the engine is hot and I think someone took the restrictor off some time ago and that could be affecting my oil pressure. As a side note I'm running Rotella 15W-40 and my sender is Dakota Digital.

tandj you probably have what my 41 had with flexible lines. The oil hose into the filter comes from the back of the block. After going through the filter returns to the crankcase through a hollow bolt with a banjo fitting line a brake line. I have my oiriginal flexible lines which are frayed and split, but I think I can have NAPA crimp new hose onto them

On '40 - '41 Ford oil filters, the high pressure line is restricted. The fitting on the back of the block near the oil pressure switch is the one that should have the restriction. If you do not have the proper fitting, simply solder the fitting closed and drill a hole .055" - .060" (Ford spec).
Restricting the return line would in effect pressurize the oil filter canister. not something you'd likely care to do.

Regulator? No, there is not.
There is only a restricted fitting. This fitting is fit in the block. The pressure line is installed to this fitting.

tandj, is your engine newly rebuilt??...if not, those pressure numbers sound normal, so probably don't need any work done on your filter....if you're still worried about it, plug the inlet line to your filter and see if the pressure numbers change....just a thot....Mike

Not a rebuilt flathead, thanks for the reassurance that the pressure is ok. I soldered the fitting and drilled a hole to spec. Not a lot of difference in pressure, a few lbs. better. Hard to say though, because it is a lot cooler here this week, so I'm not running as hot. My flatty loves the cool weather.
