Default Painting wheel backing plates - hydraulic brakess

What kind of paint should I use on my backing plates? Is there something out there that's not affected by hydraulic fluid?

When I got my '28 roadster, hydraulic brakes were already installed. I was creeping around under the front end over the weekend tracing a radiator leak and noticed that the paint on the backing plates was peeling. The hydraulic system had leaked a year ago & was fixed, but the fluid apparently affected the paint on the plates.

POR 15 won't be effected by brake fluid, will be out of direct sun light and won't require a top coat of different paint.

I just use black lacquer, hopefully the brakes won't leak fluid anyhow.

DOT 5 silicone brake fluid shouldn't hurt paint. That's all I use for older cars when I rebuild the brake system.

I also use silicone fluid. I became a believer in it when we did testing while at LAPD.

Rustoleum makes appliance epoxy paint, that is really tough stuff. I paint all hydraulic parts with it. It comes in spray cans.

A paint that is chemically ( uses a hardener ) cured will be resistant to brake fluid. best choice is using DOT5 if you are concerned

Try Du Ponts IMRON, I think not much of anything will harm it.

Imron would be a good choice . . but so wood several handfuls of other paints. Iron, still 40 years later gets people panties up in a wad they get so excited For those of you that don't know, Imron is a commercial paint. It comes in a limited choice of colors and is used on trucks and boats, airplanes etc. It was one of the first true polyurethanes to hit the market back in the 70s. For that reason and it's performance, it has been lauded about for many many years. But today, Polyurethanes are not rare, new or scarce. That's why I said any catalyzed paint would be resistant . . . All or any as durable as Imron?? IMO . yes and no. So are, some are not. But just like we say "I need a Coke" . . people are still stuck on Imron
