Default How to finish top folding mechanism on 35 Convertible

Hi to everybody,
My friend Ramon has a 35 Cabriolet that only need to finish the hood and the interior. He have some doubts about how the hood frame are finished when is folded down. Another doubt is, if the car has any wood rail around the body to fix the hood material?
There are clear parts diagrams for the top folding mechanism and the rest of parts of the hood?
Anyone have pictures of that area that can give us a better idea to finish the car.

Regards,
Fredys Medina

The metal top frame itself would be chrome plated.

Yes there is a wooden strip around the inside of the body where the top and pads are tacked into.

There is a wooden header bow in the front connecting the top to the windshield, and an additional wooden bow to establish the high point of the top.

The 35-36 Book from the early V8 Ford club is a great source of information.

Good luck

Henry

You will need to fabricate a tack or staple strip around the top of body opening outside to tack the lower edge of top material , the tacks are coveted by a strip of hidden welt. The tack strip could be made from heavy water proof oiled type paper about 1/8 to 3/16 inch thick.my 35 RD had a small Chanel that this paper fit in,I don't see one on yours ,maybe use small sheet metal screws ever few inches or make a channel

Photos of a '36 Phaeton. Not exactly the same as the Cabriolet, but maybe it will help.

007.jpgHere are some pictures of my 36 cabriolet. The plastic tack strip is available from Le Barron Bonney.
You will need to fabricate the metal U shaped channel that attaches to the body and holds the tack strip.

Fredy,
The photo you supplied has a missing part. There should be a "C" channel riveted around the body . This channel when new had a cardboard inset in the center of the channel, for nailing the convert. top fabric. You can see all of the old holes in your body for mounting the channel. I have heard of replacement steel channel being made in straight lengths, which would require a lot of work forming around the body. A tack-strip material, of vinyl, can be had to install in the center of the "C", or some folks use "Quick Poly" resin as the tack strip.
