Default 1949 Mercury master cylinder rebuild

I am hoping someone can verify I have the correct order of assembly for my MC. There is also a small rubber washer that came with the kit (see the arrow) that I did not find when disassembling the old one. Thanks

That looks pretty right to someone who has never seen a 49 Merc master cyl.
Does the front of the piston have a starry thing riveted to the front?
No idea what the small rubber is for.

If that is a copper washer that seals the front screw in bit, then you should anneal it.

For what it's worth a copy of assy. from parts manual. (no small rubber washer)

I found a similar exploded view on Van-Pelts website. I am pretty sure it is correct. The washer is steel and not copper. Still not sure what the extra, small rubber washer is for….never hurts to have extra parts laying around!

The 1952 Mercury master cylinder pictorial diagram shows that little rubber washer.

The 1952/53 set up is for swing pedals but kits with the same bore diameter and stroke are likely interchangeable depending on when the unit was manufactured and by what company.

That looks like an original FoMoCo part. The ones made later did not have the removable front cap. I purchased a new aftermarket cylinder a few years back and it has no removable cap.

Thanks 19Fodry, that was the only place I could see that the rubber washer would go. Appreciate everyone sharing their knowledge!
