Tire size
I have stock Ford wheels with Firestone 6.00 x 16 tires, is it possible or does someone make wide whites in a smaller size for the front tires and bigger for the back? Don't really want to change my wheels or go with radials..

My '39 coupe has been street rodded circa 1050s with 560x15's on the front and G78x15 on the rear. I also have a 4" dropped front axle.

Re: Tire size
Coker told me that I could use radials on my wheels as long as there were no cracks or problems. How exactly do you know that question? My Firestone tires have been on for 10 years and they seem fine. They told me that radials put more stress on the wheels too. He was suggesting if I want the small front tire to go with 550-16 on them and 700-16 for the backs. I would like radials but bias would be ok too. Any suggestions would be much appreciated as always!

Re: Tire size
i have radials on my '54 truck and '47 car with the stock wheels and no problems. cokers you need to run tubes (bias and radials), i went with diamond back radials (no tubes).

Re: Tire size
Dont Excelisor make a radial now that looks a lot like a bias tyre, might be a good compromise and I understand they are available via Coker too.

Re: Tire size
Haha I am living in China, but am an Aussie working here. My ride is in my signature and will soon be heading home in preparation for me getting back there.
Hope to buy a set of those tyres but in the black sidewalls.

Re: Tire size
I haven’t got much input on the bias versus radial debate, as I’ve never been in a car with bias. I do know that for visual impact, nothing beats a pie-crust Firestone. On the other hand, Fuelpump on the HAMB is running radial tires, and it looks gooood (see attached).
You may also wish to contact Hurst Racing Tires, as I think they’re making 16-inch radials in various sizes. -Dave |

Re: Tire size
I have 5.60 15 Coker Classics in front and L78 15s in the back, without tubes.
I have been to Texas and back and all over the midwest in my coupe. It will never have radials. My '55 has bias Firestones. The '36 4 door has Firestones. We're taking the radials off the 3 window and going back to the original wheels and Firestones.

Re: Tire size
Django, are your 15" wheels stock or new? Car looks real nice with the big rear , small front tire. I am trying to get a similar look on mine, but don't want to change the wheels. Do you think a 550-16 front and 700-16 would look good? have plenty of room in the rear fenders for a bigger tire and I have a reverse eye on the front spring so it runs lower already.
